This blog was created to conquer the idea that healthy food is more expensive than junk food.
On a friend’s facebook page, I saw two people commenting how food these days is so expensive. They both agreed that junk food, or processed food, is without doubt cheaper than ‘healthy’, non-processed foods. This is not true, but unless we learn about cooking and nutrition, how will we ever know? We will believe the myth that processed foods are always cheaper.
As a mum, I strive to do the best for my family in every way. Processed foods have been linked to all sorts of diseases and ill-health including cancer, heart disease and diabetes, in the long-term. In the short-term, they can make us sluggish and ill-tempered. Certain artificial foods even make children aggressive! We owe it to our children to give them the best possible start in life.
As a housewife and mother who has always had to cook on a budget, I can personally vouch for all these recipes. They are all simple and inexpensive – twin priorities for busy parents! Where possible, I will include step-by-step instructions and pictures, and comments about the relevant supermarket, cost of the ingredients, and any little tips or thoughts about how to get the most for your money.
